Has anyone looked into the possibility that Dorothy might have had undiagnosed mental health issues? It's 1947, and mental health wasn’t as understood or openly discussed as it is now. Her behavior on Main Street and the statements about jumping in the river could have been a cry for help. Some people are suggesting she might have been suffering from depression or trauma, maybe exacerbated by her recent divorce and the pressure of caring for her sons. If that’s the case, it might explain why she acted so impulsively that day. It's heartbreaking to think that this aspect might have been overlooked, especially if she needed help and didn't get it. Are there any records or family anecdotes that might hint at her mental state leading up to her disappearance? Just trying to brainstorm some possibilities that could bring us a step closer to understanding what happened to Dorothy.
Has anyone looked into the possibility of Dorothy's disappearance being staged? I've been reading a few threads and started wondering about something. There were no witnesses to her actually reaching the riverbank or jumping in, right? And given the fact that her body was never found, isn't it possible she ran away to start over somewhere new? Divorce back then was seen very differently, and she might have been dealing with heavy societal pressure. Plus, she had primary custody of her kids, who were living with her grandmother at the time. Maybe she decided to leave them in capable hands while she figured things out. It's just odd to me that she would announce her intention and then vanish without a trace. What do you all think? Could there be more to this story?
