I've been following the Kashawn Smith case and want to say how deeply sorry I am for the pain his family and friends are going through. This news about John Bobbitt being on the run for ten weeks has really got me thinking about how stressful those times must have been for everyone involved. It breaks my heart to imagine the fear and uncertainty Nicole Smith must have felt, not knowing if justice would be served for her son. I can't help but wonder how Bobbitt managed to evade capture for so long. It makes you question whether our systems work fast enough to bring people to justice and prevent fugitives from hiding in plain sight. This case truly shows that we need stronger community programs to help people find safer ways to resolve disputes and stop the cycle of violence. My thoughts are with everyone missing Kashawn, as they step into each difficult day without him.
