Reading about Ameen's passing has left me thinking about how much promise and potential was cut short. It's so upsetting to hear that an 18-year-old who just graduated high school and was starting to build his future has his life senselessly taken. It seems he was simply hanging out with friends that night—a situation many of us or our kids have been in. I can't stop wondering about the environment and influences young people are often exposed to, especially in neighborhoods like Soundview. We need to find ways to make these places safer and provide better alternatives for our youth. It’s vital for communities to come together to support families like Ameen's and cooperate with law enforcement to help solve cases like his. I truly hope someone with information about that night will step up, so his family can find justice and some peace amid their loss.
