I can't stop thinking about how the community on Cardenas Avenue has been tirelessly working to improve their neighborhood, yet they're still facing such devastating violence. It's truly upsetting that despite their efforts—cleaning up the streets, organizing events, trying to make it a safer place—these tragedies continue to happen. It's infuriating that the area wasn't designated as a "Violence Reduction Zone." What more must this community do to be heard by the city officials? Andrew Omar Allen was far too young, with his whole life ahead of him. No one deserves to be a victim of such senseless violence. We often try to distance ourselves by focusing on past mistakes people might have made, like Andrew's earlier charges. But at the end of the day, we're talking about a young life lost, and a grieving family and community left to pick up the pieces. It's crucial we remember him as a person, not just the circumstances of his past. I hope anyone with information will step up and help bring some sense of justice and closure to those who are mourning his untimely passing.
