In the early summer of 2019, under the lingering light of the Alaskan midnight sun, 39-year-old Shanna Marie Oman, a resident of Eagle River, vanished while visiting Fairbanks. The details surrounding her last known movements are somewhat vague, though it is understood she was last seen around June 3rd. Shanna was in Fairbanks to see a friend and had been staying at a residence off McGrath Road. In the very early hours of June 3rd, around 12:30 a.m., she left this location. Following her departure, Shanna was reportedly at a cabin situated on Pleasant Valley Road, in the vicinity of mile 23 of Chena Hot Springs Road. The owner of this cabin later informed authorities that Shanna had simply "walked away" from the property at some point on June 4th. The alarm was not raised for several days. The friend Shanna had been visiting was supposed to give her a ride back to her home in Eagle River. When she didn't show up, he initially assumed she had found another way to get home. It was only after Shanna's roommate from Eagle River called to say she had never arrived that her friend realized something was wrong and reported her missing on June 9th. Disturbingly, Shanna had left all of her personal belongings behind, including her money and her cherished dog. While she apparently had her cell phone with her, she had mentioned that the battery was dying. The final ping from her phone was recorded on June 4th, near mile 17 of Chena Hot Springs Road, a clue that would focus search efforts but ultimately lead to no answers. The Alaska State Troopers launched an investigation into her disappearance, classifying her as an endangered missing person. Extensive searches were conducted in the remote area bordering the Chena River where she was last known to have been. These efforts involved the use of a helicopter and the PAWS Search and Rescue dogs, but tragically, no trace of Shanna was ever found. She had plans to fly to Seattle for a high school graduation, a flight she never made. The circumstances of what happened remain a mystery. Shanna Oman, a woman with blonde hair, blue eyes, and a scar on her right wrist, walked into the vast Alaskan wilderness and was never heard from again, leaving her family to believe she is no longer alive. The case is an overview of a woman who disappeared under puzzling circumstances, leaving behind all her possessions and her beloved pet, with the only electronic clue being a final, fading cell phone signal in a remote area.
