On November 9, 2019, a 33-year-old man named Richard Thurman Hitchcock vanished under perplexing circumstances in rural Oklahoma. His last known whereabouts were in the small town of Grandfield, in Tillman County. That day began with an encounter with a local farmer who saw Richard walking in a field northwest of Davidson, Oklahoma. Richard explained to the farmer that he had run out of gas. In a gesture of kindness, she gave him a ride to a store in Davidson. While Richard was at the store, the farmer went to look for his car, finding it abandoned in a field three miles south and one and a half miles west of Tipton. It remains unclear why his vehicle was left in that location. From the store in Davidson, Richard managed to get another ride, this time heading to Grandfield. Upon arriving in Grandfield, Richard was dropped off at the intersection of State Highway 54 and U.S. Highway 70. Eyewitness accounts place him there, last seen wearing black Dickie brand pants and a white t-shirt. From this intersection, he was observed walking south, disappearing into a vast, open field. Since that moment, no one has reported seeing or hearing from Richard Hitchcock again. The trail of his movements on that autumn day—from a stalled car to two separate rides culminating in him walking into a field—leaves his family and investigators with a number of unanswered questions about his state of mind and ultimate destination. Richard is a man with distinct features, including a shaved head and several tattoos: the name 'Paula' with a heart on the left side of his neck, the words 'THUG RICH' spelled out across the fingers of his hands, and a teardrop tattooed under his left eye. He also sometimes wore a goatee or a mustache. The investigation into Richard's disappearance, led by the Altus Police Department, has been ongoing since he was reported missing the following day. Despite the passage of time, the circumstances surrounding his case remain a mystery. The narrative of his last known day is a fragmented puzzle: a man whose car ran out of gas, who accepted help from strangers, and who was last seen walking alone into the Oklahoma landscape. The search for answers continues for his loved ones, who are left to wonder what happened after he walked into that field. The case is a somber reminder of how suddenly a person can disappear, leaving behind only a series of questions and a lingering sense of loss for those who knew him.
