On a summer evening in 1969, a young man named Frank Arthur Cerimele, who was 21 years old at the time, left his residence on the Westside of Youngstown, Ohio. He was headed to the International Bar, located at 1710 Poland Avenue, for a planned meeting with a friend. Dressed casually for the July weather in what was described as a blue or white button-down shirt, white Bermuda shorts, and flip-flops, he drove his prized 1968 Pontiac Grand Prix. Frank never made it back to his home that night, and his family and friends would never hear from him again. His disappearance marked the beginning of a mystery that would perplex his loved ones and law enforcement for decades to come. A few days following his disappearance, Frank's vehicle was discovered in the parking lot of the International Bar. The Pontiac Grand Prix was found unlocked with its doors open, yet there were no discernible signs of a struggle or any form of disturbance in or around the car. This detail was particularly troubling to those who knew him, as they reported that Frank was very proud of his car and would not have carelessly left it unattended, especially in an unfamiliar area. The discovery of his abandoned vehicle, a possession he cherished, only deepened the concern and the baffling nature of his sudden vanishing. The initial investigation into his disappearance was conducted, but yielded no significant leads to his whereabouts. For reasons that remain unclear, the original missing persons report for Frank Cerimele was erroneously closed, and for many years, his case languished without active investigation. It was not until 2020 that the case was officially reopened by the Youngstown Police Department. The file came to the attention of a detective who was looking into the unsolved 1974 disappearance of another Youngstown resident, Joanne Coughlin, when Frank's case was mentioned. After more than five decades, Frank was once again officially recognized as a missing person, prompting a renewed effort to find answers. The case of Frank Cerimele is a long-standing cold case, a poignant story of a young man who disappeared one summer night. Key details of the case include his last known location at the International Bar, the subsequent discovery of his abandoned car, and the decades-long period where his case was mistakenly closed. Despite the passage of time, authorities continue to seek any information that might finally resolve the enduring mystery of what happened to Frank Arthur Cerimele.
