On February 14, 1985, 41-year-old Sveinn Adalsteinsson and four other crew members disappeared while aboard a fishing vessel in the treacherous waters of Alaska. The crew was reported missing between Uganik Bay and Alitak Bay, off the coast of Kodiak Island. The vessel, identified as the 83-foot "Alert," was last seen in the Shelikof Strait heading for the shelter of Bumble Bay. At the time of its last sighting, the vessel was reportedly battling heavy icing conditions.
