On August 1, 1988, a tragic incident occurred in the waters of Cook Inlet, near the Kalgin Islands off the coast of Homer, Alaska, involving a young boy named Petr Reutov. At just nine years old, Petr, also known as Peter, was aboard the 40-foot gillnet fishing vessel, the Yarmon, when he fell overboard. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue horizontally striped sweater, and an embroidered shirt. He also wore a gold crucifix on a gold chain and a black plastic watch. Petr, a Caucasian male with blond hair and blue eyes, stood at approximately five feet two inches tall and weighed around 60 pounds. The circumstances of that day were made even more heartbreaking as Petr was not the only one to be lost to the sea. A 22-year-old man named Antip Kuzenetsov also fell overboard from the Yarmon in the same incident. The vessel, identified in some reports as the Yermon, sank that day about 12 miles west of Ninilchik. The immediate aftermath of the event yielded little in the way of recovery. Search efforts only managed to locate two floating hats, one of which was a baseball cap Petr was believed to have been wearing. The case, managed by the Alaska State Troopers, remains a somber memory of a day that ended in profound loss. Both Petr Reutov and Antip Kuzenetsov were never found, and they are presumed to have perished in the cold Alaskan waters. The official report of the incident serves as the final account of the Yarmon's fate and the two souls it took with it. The disappearance of a young boy and a young man stands as a stark reminder of the inherent dangers of life at sea, leaving their families with unanswered questions and a deep sense of loss.
