On June 2, 1990, 45-year-old Evan Zaukar was last seen in a boat on the Holitna River, downstream from Kashegelok in the Aniak region of Alaska. An American Indian / Alaska Native male, Zaukar was 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed approximately 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. At the time of his disappearance, he was reportedly wearing a brown and green camouflage jacket and brown pants.
The circumstances surrounding Zaukar's disappearance indicate he had been hunting with a companion. The two men separated, and Zaukar took his boat upriver with the intention of visiting friends. When he did not return as expected, his hunting partner and several other boaters initiated a search of the area. This search led to the discovery of Zaukar's abandoned boat on the Holitna River, approximately 75 miles southeast of Aniak, near Taylor Mountain.
The Alaska State Troopers are the investigating agency for this case, which is documented under case number 900039141. The case is also listed in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System under case number MP66618. Despite the search efforts and the discovery of his boat, Evan Zaukar has not been seen or heard from since his disappearance.
