Whitney Patrice Reddick was a 26-year-old office worker and aspiring actress living in the Stone Mountain area of Georgia in the spring of 1998. Described by those who knew her as a very reliable and responsible person, her sudden disappearance was completely out of character. In the days leading up to her vanishing, Whitney was involved in a car accident that resulted in a head injury. Although she refused medical attention, her father noted that she sounded disoriented when he spoke with her after the incident. This detail has left her family and investigators to wonder if her state of mind in the days following the accident was a factor in what happened to her. Her own car was significantly damaged in the wreck, which led her to be driving a rented lavender 1997 Geo Prizm.
On the evening of April 22, 1998, Whitney visited a former boyfriend at the High Point Apartment Complex on Young Road in Lithonia, Georgia. She reportedly stayed for about half an hour before leaving around 9:30 p.m. According to her ex-boyfriend, she left his apartment without saying goodbye. It is presumed that she was on her way back to her own residence. However, she never made it home. She was not heard from again, and she did not show up for her job at Harry Norman Realtors in Buckhead. After two days with no contact, Whitney was officially reported as a missing person on April 24, 1998.
The investigation into Whitney's disappearance has unfortunately yielded few answers over the decades. A crucial piece of evidence that also vanished is the rental car she was driving, a lavender-grey four-door Geo Prizm with the Georgia license plate number 345HZE. Neither Whitney nor the vehicle have ever been located. The lack of evidence has made it difficult for the DeKalb County Police Department to determine what happened to her that night. The fact that she was considered a dependable individual makes her unannounced departure highly uncharacteristic. The circumstances surrounding her case, including her recent head injury and the complete absence of both her and the rental car, have left her loved ones with a painful and enduring mystery.
