Masumi Watanabe, a 21-year-old Japanese national, disappeared on April 12, 2007, in Haleiwa, Hawaii. She was staying with a host family and frequently walked around the Pupukea area. That morning, witnesses saw Watanabe walking along Pupukea Road before getting into a pest control truck driven by Kirk Matthew Lankford, a technician working in the area. She appeared confused, and witnesses noted she wasn’t speaking to Lankford, although he was talking to her. She was never seen again.
