On May 22, 2024, 60-year-old Joshua Green, a male from Alaska, found himself in a dire situation in Aialik Bay. He, along with his son Caleb Green, his nephew Hayden Green, and Melanie Porter, were on a 21-foot vessel that began taking on water. The group had departed from Seward the previous day but encountered poor sea conditions and weather, which prevented their return. A mayday call was sent out early in the morning as their boat was succumbing to the harsh conditions of the Alaskan waters, approximately 35 miles southwest of Seward. Tragically, the vessel capsized, leading to a swift and urgent response. The U.S. Coast Guard launched a helicopter and received assistance from a nearby Good Samaritan vessel, the Skana, a tour boat operating out of Seward. The crew of the Skana was able to recover the body of 29-year-old Hayden Green from the water. Despite extensive search efforts by the Coast Guard, which covered 95 square miles over nine hours, Joshua Green, Caleb Green, and Melanie Porter remained missing. The active search was eventually suspended by the Coast Guard. In the wake of this devastating event, the family was left to grapple with an immense loss. An obituary confirmed that Joshua Green, along with his son Caleb and nephew Hayden, died on May 22 when their boat tragically capsized in the stormy waters. Joshua was remembered as a dedicated educator, coach, and administrator who positively influenced many young lives over a career spanning more than three decades. He was also an avid outdoorsman, finding joy in hunting and fishing. The case, which began as a desperate search for missing persons, concluded with the heartbreaking confirmation of their passing, leaving a profound void in the lives of their loved ones.
