On a day that began like any other, 60-year-old Melanie Porter, a female resident of Seward, Alaska, found herself in a perilous situation that would lead to her disappearance on May 22, 2024. She was one of four people aboard a 22-foot vessel that had departed from Seward the previous day. The group was in Aialik Bay, a body of water about 35 miles southwest of Seward, when they encountered treacherous sea conditions and bad weather that prevented their return to shore.
