In the late spring of 2018, a 33-year-old U.S. Army veteran named William "Ryan" Goodwin vanished from the small community of Ragley, Louisiana. He was last seen on June 28, 2018, in the 5700 block of Topsy Bell Road. Goodwin is described as a white male, approximately 5'11" tall, and weighing between 175 and 200 pounds, with blond hair and green or hazel eyes. He has several distinct physical features, including a tattoo of the name "GOODWIN" in an Old English style on his upper right arm and a tribal band tattoo with the initials "RG" on his upper left arm. Additionally, he has an oval-shaped scar on his lower back. At the time he went missing, Goodwin was reportedly struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder and substance abuse issues. The initial months following Goodwin's disappearance were marked by a concerning silence, as his absence was not immediately brought to the attention of law enforcement. It wasn't until November 5, 2018, that the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's Office officially began an investigation into his whereabouts. The discovery was made incidentally; deputies were investigating a separate theft when they learned from Goodwin's family that no one had been in contact with him since June. This significant delay complicated the early stages of the investigation, as the trail had grown cold. A peculiar discovery was made when some of Goodwin's personal items, including his wallet, driver's license, and debit card, were found inside a shed located miles away at 9271 Highway 190 East. This finding suggested he may not have intended to be gone for a long period, yet it deepened the mystery surrounding his movements and state of mind. As the investigation continued into the following year, a disturbing but unverified tip emerged. In 2019, a person contacted Goodwin's family through social media, alleging that he had been beaten to death by two acquaintances. The message went so far as to name four individuals who were supposedly involved in or witnesses to the alleged crime. Despite this alarming claim, authorities have been unable to verify the information, and no charges have been filed in connection to this tip. In response to his disappearance, concerned family, friends, and community volunteers organized searches in the Ragley area, hoping to find any sign of Goodwin, but their efforts did not yield any new evidence. The case of William "Ryan" Goodwin is now considered a cold case. The circumstances of his disappearance remain unclear, from the delayed reporting and the discovery of his personal effects in a shed to the unsubstantiated claims of foul play, leaving his family with unanswered questions. The Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's Office continues to seek any information that might lead to a resolution.
