Shirley Jean Maske Polk, a 33-year-old woman, was last seen on December 26, 1978, in Norwood, North Carolina. She reportedly vanished near the Rocky River, which forms the boundary between Anson County and Stanly County. The circumstances around her disappearance are mysterious, with evidence suggesting she may have entered the river around the time she went missing. On the day of her disappearance, Shirley was last seen wearing a black jumpsuit with narrow shoulder straps.
