In the late morning of August 15, 2019, 30-year-old Rashell Elizabeth Hammond walked away from her home in Mosca, Colorado, and vanished. She had only recently moved to the area from Columbus, Ohio, just three weeks prior to her disappearance. On the day she went missing, Rashell left behind all of her personal belongings, including her identification, cell phone, and medication prescribed for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
She was last seen wearing a black tank top, khaki shorts, and black Nike shoes. Her mother was running errands at the time and was unaware that it would be the last time she would see her daughter.
Rashell is described as being of Cherokee descent, standing 5'6' tall and weighing around 120 pounds at the time she went missing. She has black, shoulder-length hair and brown eyes. Her appearance is distinguished by several tattoos, including the phrase 'Live Like a Lion' on her upper chest, a star behind her ear, a skull on the back of one wrist, stars on an inner forearm, and a depiction of a cat with a bong on one of her shoulders. She also has a septum piercing and was wearing a silver circular barbell. Concerns have been raised about her well-being, as she is a very trusting person and may have accepted a ride or assistance from someone who intended to cause her harm.
The Alamosa County Sheriff's Office is investigating Rashell's disappearance. Initial search efforts involved foot patrols, K9 units, a helicopter, and SUVs, but yielded no clues as to her whereabouts. Her family fears she may have been a victim of human trafficking, though law enforcement has stated there is no evidence to support this theory. Authorities have considered the possibility that she may be living in a homeless community. Despite the passage of time, there have been very few leads in the case.
