Eric Ryan Veith, a 32-year-old man from Vancouver, Washington, was visiting his family's beach home in the Long Beach area when his life took an unexpected turn. On the morning of June 6, 2021, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Eric took his dog to a neighbor's house. He left his cherished pet with the neighbor, explaining that he needed to take care of some personal matters and would be back later to retrieve his dog. This was the last time he was seen in person.
His failure to return for his dog later that day was the first indication that something was amiss. The situation grew more concerning when he called the neighbor and stated he would not be returning and mentioned that he had 'hit his head.' That phone call was the last known communication from Eric Veith.
Two days after he was last seen, Eric's vehicle was discovered at the Eagles Nest Resort, an RV park in Ilwaco, which is only a few miles from his family's vacation home. There were no immediate signs of foul play connected to the vehicle. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the RV park which reportedly showed him near a storage shed. Following the discovery of his car, search and rescue teams were deployed to comb the area surrounding the RV park, but their extensive efforts yielded no trace of Eric. The case perplexed investigators as leads quickly dried up, and for nearly three years, his whereabouts remained a profound mystery, leaving his family in a state of desperate uncertainty. During this time, his family endured additional distress, including receiving scam messages from individuals attempting to extort money by falsely claiming they had kidnapped him.
A significant break in the case finally came on March 30, 2024, when a person found Eric's wallet in the vicinity of where he was last seen in Ilwaco. This discovery prompted the Pacific County Sheriff's Office to organize a new, large-scale search operation for the weekend of April 13th and 14th. The search involved numerous local volunteers, various search and rescue teams, and cadaver dogs. On the afternoon of the first day of the search, the teams located human remains in a forested area near the Eagles Nest RV Resort. The remains were later confirmed to be those of Eric Veith, bringing a sorrowful end to the long search.
