Cian McLaughlin, a 27-year-old Irish national, was last seen on June 8, 2021, in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. He was known to have entered the park at the Moose Entrance Station around 2:15 p.m. and was reportedly heading toward the Garnet Canyon trail system, which includes popular destinations like Surprise Lake, Amphitheater Lake, and Delta Lake. McLaughlin was well-versed with the outdoors, having spent winters as a snowboard instructor and summers working at a local bar.
He had moved to Wyoming to be closer to nature, reflecting his love for outdoor adventures.
His car was later found near the Lupine Meadows trailhead, and search efforts were quickly initiated. Unfortunately, a false sighting of McLaughlin provided by a witness misled authorities, wasting over 500 hours of valuable search time. This misinformation delayed the search in the correct areas, focusing on other parts of the park initially. The witness was later fined and banned from the park for her false report.
Despite extensive search operations by land and air, no trace of McLaughlin has been found. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, shorts, and hiking boots, and he carried a red iPhone, a red Apple Watch, and a silver chain.
