In May of 1987, a 37-year-old man named Danny Liggett vanished from New York City, leaving behind a perplexing and troubling case for law enforcement. Liggett, who held a Ph.D. in education and resided in Hoboken, New Jersey, was last seen on May 7th. On that day, a female acquaintance accompanied him to an apartment in Manhattan's East Village. The purpose of the visit was to meet a man named Kissoon Adams to potentially sell a piece of jewelry. However, the meeting took a violent turn.
It is alleged that Liggett attacked both Adams, who was physically impaired and used a wheelchair, and the woman who had brought him there. Tragically, Adams was fatally stabbed during the altercation.
Following the incident, Liggett fled the scene. Authorities state that he threatened the female acquaintance, warning her not to report the crime to the police. An arrest warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution was issued by the Southern District of New York. In the immediate aftermath of the killing, investigators believe Liggett traveled to Gainesville, Georgia, where he was reportedly involved in a shooting incident but was not apprehended. From there, it is thought that he left the United States, possibly with financial assistance from family and friends. It is also believed that he was able to acquire a fraudulent passport.
Over the years, law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, have continued to pursue leads in an effort to locate Liggett. The FBI is offering a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads directly to his arrest. Investigators have reason to believe that Liggett may have traveled to Southeast Asia, with the Philippines being a specific country of interest, as well as parts of Northern Canada. He also has known connections to Springfield, Illinois, and Des Moines, Iowa. At the time of his disappearance, Liggett was described as being between 5'8' and 5'11' tall, weighing between 145 and 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. A distinctive tattoo of 'Snoopy' is located on his left forearm.
