Geraldine Atha Myers, aged 81, was last seen on May 13, 2001, at her home in Riverside, California. That evening, she had spent time with her son celebrating Mother's Day. Myers was known to have high blood pressure and had suffered several strokes in the past, requiring regular medication. Two days after her disappearance, her family contacted the police when they were unable to reach her.
