Rene Escobar Sanchez, a 36-year-old man from Odessa, Texas, was last seen on the night of July 12, 2008. Sanchez was drinking beer in the garage of his home on North Hancock Avenue at around 11:00 p.m. He left behind his personal belongings, including his vehicle, phone, wallet, and identification, and disappeared without a trace.
For years, his family and authorities searched for answers.
In January 2013, a major breakthrough came when Jesus Miguel Venegas, a man who had been drinking with Sanchez that night, confessed to killing him. Venegas admitted that he had stabbed Sanchez and claimed to have buried his body near Interstate 20 and Moss Avenue. Despite the confession, searches of the area where Venegas claimed to have buried Sanchez turned up no remains.
Venegas was convicted of Sanchez's murder in 2015 and sentenced to 18 years in prison. Sanchez, a devoted father and husband, left behind a family, including two young children.
