Adam Arthur Rosenthal, a 39-year-old former mayoral candidate from Gainesville, Florida, was reported missing in June 2024. Rosenthal, who had run for mayor in 2022 and received 236 votes in a nine-person race, was last seen on April 25, 2024, in Gainesville.
Prior to his disappearance, Rosenthal had moved to Gainesville from Wisconsin in 2012 to work in the tech industry.
He had described himself as formerly homeless and a victim of domestic violence, emphasizing the importance of community support in his recovery.
The case took a dramatic turn when Rosenthal was discovered in Tennessee, where he had allegedly joined a religious group known as the Twelve Tribes. On December 3, 2024, Rosenthal was arrested and charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence in connection with the death of Darren Gambrel, another member of the Twelve Tribes. Gambrel's body was found on a property owned by the religious group near Pulaski, Tennessee.
Further investigations revealed that Rosenthal is also being charged with the murder of Albert Knight, a 59-year-old homeless man found dead on May 26, 2024, in Macon, Georgia. Knight had been attacked in an alleyway, and a warrant for his murder was obtained on December 4, 2024.
