Krystle Nicole Journee, a 39-year-old mother of three, vanished from her St. Roch neighborhood in New Orleans, Louisiana, on December 22, 2021. That evening, she informed her family that she was attending a concert for the rapper Fredo Bang at the Saenger Theatre with her ex-boyfriend, Roosevelt Marshall. Surveillance footage from her home on Mandeville Street captured her getting into Marshall's black Toyota Avalon at approximately 7:00 p.m.
She was last seen wearing a beige or cream-colored sweater dress, a matching hat, and black boots. Her family grew concerned and reported her missing on December 26, 2021, when she failed to return home and missed holiday gatherings, which was highly uncharacteristic for the devoted mother.
The investigation into Krystle's disappearance quickly focused on her ex-boyfriend, Roosevelt Marshall, who was believed to be the last person to see her. Authorities revealed a history of domestic violence between the couple, with active warrants for Marshall's arrest stemming from previous incidents involving Krystle. In one instance from December 2020, Marshall allegedly punched her repeatedly, causing severe bruising to her face and ripping an earring out. In another incident in August 2020, he was accused of taking her keys and driving away in their rental car while she was holding onto the steering wheel. Krystle had reportedly told police that the abuse was a regular occurrence and that Marshall had threatened to kill her. Despite being named a person of interest in her disappearance, Marshall was not immediately located for questioning by the New Orleans Police Department.
Months after Krystle vanished, her family, desperate for answers, hired a private investigator who located Roosevelt Marshall in Cobb County, Georgia, in April 2022. While he was interviewed by local detectives there regarding Krystle's case, he was not charged in connection with her disappearance. Marshall was eventually extradited to New Orleans in August 2022 to face the outstanding domestic abuse charges from 2020, but those charges were later dropped. To date, it remains unclear if Krystle ever made it to the concert that night. Her case remains an active and ongoing investigation, leaving her family, particularly her three children, in a painful state of uncertainty.
