His family knew something was wrong, as it was highly uncharacteristic of him to be out of touch, especially with his grandmother whom he spoke with daily.
The days following Byron's disappearance were filled with frantic calls and growing fear. His grandmother's repeated attempts to reach his cell phone went unanswered. The family's worry intensified as they realized he had left without his necessary medications for seizures and ADHD, which could potentially affect his memory. On March 22, 2022, his family officially reported him missing to the Knoxville Police Department. Investigators learned that Byron's cell phone had last pinged a tower on View Park Drive on the day he went missing. Despite multiple searches of the area around Riverside Drive and the surrounding woods, including the use of K-9 units, no clues to his whereabouts were found. His bank account has remained untouched since the day he was last seen.
