Kenneth Nelson Stone, a 38-year-old fisherman, went missing on June 13, 1970, after departing for a lobster fishing trip from Owls Head, Maine. Early that morning, Stone set out alone in his 25-foot boat. By mid-morning, the Coast Guard was notified that his boat had been found aground on a ledge near Marblehead Island at the entrance to Penobscot Bay. The throttle was still in the full-on position, but the engine had stopped.
