On November 13, 2008, a day that began like any other, Sahil left his home to attend classes, carrying with him a significant amount of cash, $4,000, intended to pay for his tuition. That day, he successfully paid his fees, attended his classes, met with friends, and even spoke with a career counsellor to plan for his upcoming semester, showing no signs of distress or any intention of leaving his life behind. As the evening approached on November 13th, Sahil's movements were last captured by surveillance cameras. He was seen leaving the Kwantlen campus at approximately 6:20 p.m., wearing a brown or beige jacket, blue jeans, a grey sweater with red stripes on the neck, and green shoes. He was about 5'6" tall and weighed around 143 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He had a slight beard, and his left ear was pierced. A notable characteristic was a tattoo on his right forearm of the word "RAM" written in Hindi symbols. He was also carrying a backpack that contained a laptop. After he walked away from the university grounds that evening, Sahil Sharma seemingly vanished without a trace. In the days and weeks that followed, a heart-wrenching search began. Sahil's distraught parents and siblings traveled from India to Surrey, desperately seeking any information that could lead to their son's whereabouts. The police investigation delved into his life, finding no indication that he was involved in any drug activity or had any medical issues. There was nothing to suggest he was unhappy, suicidal, or wanted to disappear. His passport, bank account, and cell phone showed no activity after his disappearance.
