In the late summer of 2014, a family in Port Moody, British Columbia, would see their son and brother for what would be the last time. On the evening of September 1, 2014, 32-year-old Meysam Mokri left his family's home, telling them only that he was "going out". He carried a black Adidas duffel bag which held some of his clothes. At the time he was last seen, Meysam was wearing a distinctive yellow t-shirt that had "Brasil" written in blue letters across a green swirl, an orange jacket, blue jeans, and white Air Jordan leather running shoes. His family and authorities described him as a Middle Eastern male, standing five feet nine inches tall and weighing around 150 pounds, with a slender build, short black hair, and brown eyes. His departure was unsettling for his family, who reported that it was highly out of character for him to not come home or be out of contact for an extended period. The days following his disappearance turned into weeks, and then months, with no word from Meysam. The Port Moody Police Department initiated an investigation into his whereabouts. An early point of concern for investigators was the fact that Meysam did not have access to a vehicle, and it was understood that he did not have a large circle of friends in the Lower Mainland area, making his sudden departure all the more mysterious. The lack of communication was a significant red flag for both his family and the police, as it was a complete deviation from his usual behavior. The public was asked to keep an eye out for anyone matching his description, with hopes that a tip could lead to answers. Over a year after he was last seen, a potential breakthrough in the case emerged. In December of 2015, a possible sighting was reported in the area of David Avenue and Pipeline Road in Coquitlam. A man who matched Meysam's description was seen walking in the area. The witness described the man as having a full beard and appearing disheveled, giving the impression that he might have been living in the bush. Despite this lead, the trail seems to have gone cold once more. The case of Meysam Mokri's disappearance is one characterized by a sudden and unexplained departure, followed by a prolonged and agonizing silence. A man leaves his family home for a seemingly routine outing and vanishes, leaving behind a family searching for answers and a community reminded of how quickly a life can change.
