On May 23, 2009, Fanzheng Meng was seen for the last time at Britannia Park and Beach in Ottawa, Ontario. Fanzheng and another man had been aboard an inflatable raft on the Ottawa River. The two men did not return to the shore and the deflated raft was subsequently located.
