On July 15, 2000, Marcus McKay went hunting with his stepfather and three others. Marcus and his stepfather broke from the group to hunt on their own. Some time later, the pair had successfully brought down a deer. Marcus was to stay with the deer while his stepfather went to get help from their friends. However, when they returned, Marcus was nowhere to be found. Marcus was last seen approximately 10 km north of the intersection of Mallard and Bison Roads in the community of Mallard, Manitoba.
