In the autumn of 2023, concern grew for the well-being of a 63-year-old man named Darwin Carmen Johnsgaard. His last confirmed sighting was on October 17th of that year at a Dollarama store in the town of Strathmore, Alberta. At the time of his disappearance, Darwin was described as being approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing between 170 and 180 pounds, with grey, shoulder-length hair. A noticeable scar was present on the right side of his forehead.
When he was last seen, he was wearing a black button-up shirt, dark-colored jeans, a ¾ cut black jacket, and a ball cap.
The days turned into weeks, and with no word from Darwin, the Strathmore detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police sought help from the public in December of that year to locate him. It was known that Darwin did not have a permanent home and would often make his way to Calgary, where he would use the services of the Mustard Seed Shelter. This added a layer of complexity to the search, as his movements were not always predictable, and he could be in one of several communities. Authorities and those who knew him hoped for any information that might lead to his whereabouts and bring him to safety.
The public was asked to be vigilant and to report any potential sightings to the Strathmore RCMP. Details of his appearance and last known attire were circulated in the hope that someone might recognize him. The case highlighted the vulnerabilities faced by individuals without a fixed address and the challenges in staying connected with them. The search for answers regarding Darwin's disappearance continued, with many hoping for a resolution that would bring peace of mind to those who were concerned for him. As of now, information regarding the resolution of his case remains vague.Last Seen: Oct 17, 2023
