On July 17, 1992, Marshall Holmes wandered into the woods near Vassar in Manitoba. He is described as a recluse and a hermit. He had previously gone missing and returned of his own accord. He enjoyed being in the wilderness and liked to sleep in the long grass. The last time he went missing, he was gone for three days and emerged from the woods when he became hungry. Extensive searches were conducted by land, air and with the assistance of a police dog.
