On September 22, 1981, the Churchill RCMP received a call from Mrs. Esmoil, who said that her two sons and two friends were late returning from a canoe trip. On August 18 1981, Brian Dean Esmoil and his brother headed out on an extended canoe trip from Leaf Rapids to Churchill, Manitoba, with two friends.
