He had brown hair that was shorter than collar length, and brown eyes. Distinctive features included a scar on the middle finger of his left hand, decayed teeth, and a missing upper front tooth. He was last seen wearing a blue jean jacket, blue jeans, and carrying a small black leather packsack.
The initial period following Brian's disappearance was marked by uncertainty, as several people who knew him reported seeing him in North Bay and Oshawa in the months that followed. One friend specifically recalled seeing Brian in downtown North Bay in September of 1994, noting he was wearing blue jeans, a jean jacket, a sweatshirt, and running shoes, and was still carrying a packsack.
