On August 6, 2007, a 20-year-old Filipino-Canadian woman named Christina Calayca disappeared from Rainbow Falls Provincial Park in Ontario, where she was on a spontaneous camping trip with her cousin and two friends. A recent graduate with a certificate in Early Childhood Education, Christina was known for her bubbly personality, strong work ethic, and devotion to her family and faith. The group had arrived at the park, located about 200 kilometers east of Thunder Bay, the previous day for the Civic Holiday long weekend. On the morning of her disappearance, Christina, who was an avid runner, went for a jog. The last confirmed sighting of her was that morning. She was wearing a blue hoodie, a striped maroon and purple shirt, black pants, and white running shoes. Hours passed before Christina's friends became concerned and began to search for her on the park's trails. After their initial search proved fruitless, they notified park staff, who then contacted the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). An extensive official search was launched, but no trace of Christina was found. The terrain in the park is rugged, leading some to believe she may have become lost or injured. However, the trails are considered well-marked, and it is unusual for people to go missing in that park. Investigators also considered the possibility of an animal attack, but no evidence was found to support this theory. Over the years, the investigation into Christina Calayca's disappearance has continued, with police following up on numerous leads and conducting further interviews. Her friends who were with her on the trip were questioned multiple times but have never been considered suspects. The Calayca family, along with friends and community members, have organized their own searches and have worked tirelessly to keep Christina's story in the public eye. Despite these efforts and a $50,000 reward offered by the Ontario government for information leading to her whereabouts, her case remains an unsolved missing person investigation.
