In the autumn of 2010, a family was forever changed by the disappearance of Fred Byram, a 44-year-old man from Sainte-Anne-de-Madawaska, New Brunswick. Byram was working in Moncton during the week and staying at the Elmwood Motel. On the night of Thursday, October 7, 2010, close to midnight, he was seen leaving the Rockin Rodeo nightclub on Elmwood Drive. After saying goodbye to some acquaintances, he got into a taxi, and was never seen or heard from again. He was reported missing on October 10, 2010, after he failed to return to his motel or make contact with his family, which was described as being out of character for him as he usually maintained daily contact with them while working away from home. At the time he went missing, Byram was described as being five-foot-ten, weighing about 170 pounds, with brown eyes and salt-and-pepper hair. He had a distinctive tattoo on his right arm and a noticeable gap between his upper front teeth. When last seen, he was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. The days following Fred Byram's disappearance turned into weeks, and then years, with no sign of him. The Codiac Regional RCMP have maintained an active investigation into his case since 2010, following up on numerous leads over the years, but to no avail. His belongings at the Elmwood Motel were left untouched, and he never returned to his home in Sainte-Anne-de-Madawaska. The fact that he had no history of disappearing and was in regular contact with his loved ones made his sudden silence all the more alarming to both his family and investigators. The police have made public appeals for information, including releasing a new photo of Byram in the weeks after he went missing, hoping to jog someone's memory. Over a decade has passed, and the search for answers continues for Fred Byram's family and friends. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have periodically renewed their appeal to the public for any information, no matter how insignificant it might seem, that could help them resolve this long-standing case.
