In the late summer of 1992, a 48-year-old man named John Allan Bowes embarked on a journey eastward, heading towards his home in Kingston, Ontario. On August 15th, he made a stop in the small town of Nipigon, situated on the north shore of Lake Superior. There, he was seen purchasing gasoline, a routine act for any traveler on a long drive.
