In the summer of 2019, concern began to grow for a 27-year-old man from Eastern Ontario named Danick Bourgeois. He was last in contact with his relatives in July of that year in the St-Bernardin area of Nation Municipality. As weeks turned into months with no word, his family officially reported him missing in September 2019. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as a white male, standing 5'7" tall and weighing 148 pounds. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Hawkesbury expressed concern for his well-being and sought help from the public to locate him. The narrative surrounding Danick Bourgeois took a significant turn when, in 2020, he was identified as a suspect in a much older and more violent case. The OPP issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest, charging him with the second-degree murder of 65-year-old Frederick 'John' Hatch. This incident dates back to December 2015. Hatch was last seen in Nepean, a district of Ottawa, on December 16, 2015. Tragically, his body was discovered the following day at the scene of a brush fire in a wooded area near the town of Erin, over 400 kilometers away. The investigation into Hatch's death was complex and spanned several years before Bourgeois was officially named as the suspect. Danick Miguel Bourgeois, who is from St. Albert, Ontario, is now considered one of Canada's most wanted fugitives. Law enforcement agencies have utilized various methods to locate him, including the BOLO (Be On The Lookout) Program, which has featured his case on billboards and social media in an effort to generate new leads. Authorities have warned the public not to approach Bourgeois if they see him, but to contact police immediately. A substantial reward of $50,000 has been offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Frederick 'John' Hatch. The case that began as a search for a missing person has evolved into a nationwide manhunt for a man wanted in connection with a homicide.
