On a Thursday in the middle of June 2013, Immaculate 'Mackie' Mary Basil, a 27-year-old mother from the Tl'azt'en Nation, was preparing to attend a party. After an evening of running errands with her siblings, she headed to a gathering at a home on the Tachie Reserve. Later that night, she left the party with her younger cousin and another, older man.
