Tragically, the search for Daniel Emerson came to a sad conclusion. On the morning of May 23, the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office received a report of a body discovered on the shoreline near the Stow Ferry in North Harmony. The location was in the vicinity of where Emerson's truck had been recovered. With the assistance of the Chautauqua County Coroners' Office and the Lakewood-Busti Police Department, the body was preliminarily identified as Daniel Emerson. This identification was later officially confirmed by the Erie County Medical Examiner's Office. The investigation into the incident concluded that Emerson had driven his truck onto the frozen lake on March 4, proceeding north on the ice before breaking through under the I-86 bridge.
