The circumstances surrounding Aranda's disappearance are limited. It wasn't until over five years later, on July 22, 2022, that his family reported him missing to the Los Angeles Police Department's Newton Police Station. They stated that Aranda had moved out around the date he was last seen and they had not had any contact with him since.

The Los Angeles Police Department- Adult Missing Persons Unit is the investigating agency for this case. The case was created in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System on February 24, 2026. As part of the investigation, a DNA sample was submitted by Aranda's biological mother on February 22, 2026, to the California Department of Justice Jan Bashinski DNA Laboratory.
