Alexander's father, Cesar Quintana, had been awarded sole custody of his son prior to the abduction, with the mother being granted supervised visits. The abduction reportedly occurred while Alexander's father was recovering from surgery and had allowed the mother to visit. When he awoke, both she and the child were gone.
