In the autumn of 2025, a fourteen-year-old girl named Destinee N. Britton was reported missing from Bolingbrook, Illinois. At the time of her disappearance, it was believed she may have traveled to Lansing, Illinois. She was described as having black and blonde hair extensions. With no confirmed sightings and a lack of clear leads, her case caused considerable concern, and her family was left without answers.
The Bolingbrook Police Department and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children were involved in the investigation.
A couple of months later, in an unrelated case, Destinee, then 14, and a fellow teenager, 17-year-old Mia Pettis, were reported missing from Yorkville, Illinois. The two were last seen late in the evening at the corner of Bridge and Park streets in Yorkville. They had left a group home with multiple duffel bags and were seen walking east toward Route 47. Authorities issued an Endangered Missing Person Advisory for both girls, noting that each had a condition that placed them in danger.
The investigation into the Yorkville disappearance revealed that the teenagers had a history of running away and were known to frequent the Chicago area. This was seemingly confirmed when the girls reportedly posted on social media indicating they were in Chicago. Destinee was described as being 5-foot-1 and weighing about 150 pounds, with brown hair. She was last seen wearing a red coat with a fur-trimmed hood, black and white checkered pants, and light-colored shoes, carrying a pink backpack and a dark-colored duffel bag. Despite efforts by the Yorkville Police Department, including collaboration with Chicago police to check several possible addresses, the two remained missing. As of late December 2025, authorities had been in contact with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to potentially assist with the case should any new leads emerge.
