Larry Dale Turner, a 64-year-old man, was last seen in Austin, Texas on September 8, 2015. He was sighted at approximately 10:35 a.m. at a gas station located in a shopping complex at the intersection of the 8800 block of South Interstate 35 and East Slaughter Lane. Surveillance video from the Circle K inside the Shell station captured his presence.
At the time of his disappearance, Turner was wearing a straw cowboy hat, a blue short-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, and was walking with the assistance of a cane.
Shortly after his last sighting, at 11:15 a.m., Turner made a frantic phone call to his common-law wife of nineteen years, Jerri Roberts. In the brief and abrupt call, he stated, "They're after me, I don't know what's going on. I'm getting out of the van," and informed her of the van's location before the call ended. There has been no activity on his cellular phone since this communication. Turner has not been seen or heard from again.
Following the distressing phone call, Turner's wife contacted the police, but a formal report was not taken for another three days. His van was located at the shopping complex as he had indicated. After being parked there for three days, his wife had it towed before the police took it as part of their investigation.
Austin police consider Turner to be an endangered missing person and believe he is the victim in this case. Investigators have suggested that narcotics or money could have been a motive for his disappearance, a theory his wife disputes. Turner has a criminal record dating back to the 1970s, with 14 arrests.
