Summary based on 6 sources
On January 9, 1987, 18-year-old Deborah Suzzette Hernandez Moberg was last seen in San Antonio, Texas. Her disappearance, however, began two days earlier on January 7, when she was abducted from her home by her stepfather, Ray Moberg. Ray Moberg also kidnapped Deborah's eight-year-old half-sister, whom he released at her grandmother's house the following day. Deborah, a senior at MacArthur High School, was never seen or heard from again.

The investigation into Deborah's disappearance quickly focused on her stepfather. In the early morning hours of January 11, Ray Moberg was arrested at a motel on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of Deborah's half-sister, who was his biological daughter. A search of his motel room uncovered 94 photographs depicting naked young girls and a male engaged in sexual activity with them. For six months, Ray refused to disclose Deborah's whereabouts. He eventually confessed to shooting her to death and disposing of her body in a dumpster. Despite extensive searches, Deborah's remains have never been located.

Following his confession, Ray Moberg pleaded guilty to Deborah's murder and was sentenced to life in prison. He is also serving additional sentences for burglary and the sexual assault of two other children, aged three and five, who were identified in the photographs found in his motel room. Over the years, he has been repeatedly denied parole. Deborah's half-sister later told police that during her captivity, her father was driving Deborah's red Ford Mustang and at one point, stopped near a body of water with cattails and telephone poles, where he dropped something from the back of the car. Despite this information, searches for Deborah's body have been fruitless. Due to the circumstances, foul play is suspected in her case.
