Michael Brendan Nash, a 61-year-old retired New York City Transit Authority employee, has been missing from the Pelham Bay area of the Bronx since April 10, 2000. Nash, who spent his days playing the lottery, resided in a house he had inherited. On April 8, 2000, a concerned Nash phoned his sister to report that two unknown men had unexpectedly arrived at his home and ordered him to leave the property for reasons he did not specify.
Two days later, on April 10, Nash was last seen at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Paulding Avenue in the Bronx. That same day, a fire erupted in the basement of his residence. Authorities later determined the fire was a case of arson, discovering that a flammable substance had been intentionally ignited. A thorough search of the fire-damaged home yielded no human remains. Also on the day of his disappearance, a withdrawal of $600 was made from Nash's account at a Chase Manhattan Bank.
Investigators found Nash's orange Volkswagen Rabbit parked near his home. Inside his house, they discovered his wallet and bags filled with lottery tickets. Nash's family informed police that he was in daily contact with them, and their inability to reach him prompted them to report him missing. His relatives, particularly his sister, believe the two men who visited him were involved in his disappearance and suspect they murdered him in an attempt to take his house.
