Harry James Kostick, 59, was last seen in Endicott, New York, in September 2014. Although he reportedly had contact with family members in October or November of that year, he was never heard from again. Authorities stated that Kostick left his Lincoln Avenue residence in September 2014 and did not return. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as being 6 feet tall and weighing about 230 pounds, with no known medical conditions.
The investigation into Kostick's disappearance spanned several years. In March 2018, his son, Shawn M. Kostick, was indicted by a Broome County grand jury and charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, intimidating a witness, second-degree forgery, and first-degree criminal contempt in connection with his father's disappearance. Investigators believe that Shawn Kostick caused his father's death at his home on Lincoln Avenue between September 1 and October 3, 2014. Following his father's death, Shawn Kostick allegedly wrote fraudulent checks totaling $2,983 from his father's bank account and threatened to harm witnesses in the case.
In January 2020, just months before his murder trial was set to begin, Shawn Kostick pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter. He admitted to killing his father during a fight with the intent to cause serious physical injury. In exchange for his plea, he was sentenced to ten years in prison, which would begin after he completed a sentence for an unrelated attempted burglary conviction. Despite his confession, Shawn Kostick has not revealed the location of his father's body, which has never been found.
