Lorraine Blakney, a 70-year-old woman from Washington, New Hampshire, was last seen on September 12, 2013. On the day of her disappearance, Blakney engaged in unusual behavior, including burning some of her personal belongings. She also instructed her son to be ready to carry out instructions she had left for the event of her death. After these preparations, she left her home, locking the door behind her, and has not been seen or heard from since.
At the time she went missing, Blakney did not possess a credit card, debit card, or cell phone.
Prior to her disappearance, Blakney had been involved with a religious mission for children in Ethiopia. However, she was not permitted to return to her missionary work due to what has been described as changes in her mental acuity. Her family reported that she had recently learned of this restriction before she vanished. Blakney was known to have long white hair and was believed to be wearing a black cape and a long, flowing dress, similar to those worn by Amish women, on the day she was last seen.
