On September 2, 1988, 69-year-old Virginia C. Douglas vanished during what her husband, Frank E. Douglas Sr., described as an impromptu Labor Day weekend trip to Bar Harbor, Maine. The couple, residents of Lexington, Massachusetts, were traveling in their dark blue 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass when Frank claimed they stopped at the Reny's Shopping Plaza in Belfast, Maine, for Virginia to use the restroom.
