Muni Bart Perzov, a 49-year-old man from San Jose, California, was last seen on May 1, 2009. On that day, he sent a text message to his girlfriend of eleven years, Theresa Hanson, stating that he was going stargazing on Mount Hamilton. This was the last known communication from Perzov, and he has not been seen or heard from since. It was considered uncharacteristic for him to leave without any warning.
At the time of his disappearance, he was driving a blue 1998 Audi with the license plate number 3VVN796, which had a noticeable fist-sized dent on the rear driver's side.
Following his disappearance, Hanson discovered that Perzov's financial records from the previous three years had been deleted from his computer. She expressed her belief that he had been depressed over financial difficulties and may have been suicidal. Hanson also mentioned that Perzov kept a gun in the trunk of his car. Further investigation revealed that an unopened bottle of Maker's Mark bourbon and a single drinking glass were missing from his home.
Two weeks after he was last seen, Perzov's Audi was discovered abandoned at Big Basin State Park. Nearby, authorities found an abandoned tent near the Sunset Trail. Inside the tent was a letter from Perzov addressed to his girlfriend, which she described as a suicide note. Despite an extensive search of the vast 18,000-acre park, no trace of Perzov was ever found.
Police have stated that they do not suspect foul play in Perzov's disappearance. Born in Merrick, New York, Perzov's interests included hiking, camping, cooking, writing, aviation, and stargazing. While his girlfriend has expressed hope that he may still be alive, his case remains unsolved.
